Twilio looks cheaper per message. Is it?

Can I still use my own systems?

Do I need to register a sender or a number?

Not in the UK. Messages go out from the alphanumeric Remindlo sender, which is included. In the US and Canada messages come from a phone number, which also supports replies.

What happens if a message fails?

Delivery is tracked through queued, sent, delivered and failed states, with automatic retries and a fallback between providers. On a self-built Twilio setup that retry logic is code you would write yourself.
